Chemical Change

We have been looking at physical v’s chemical change, during the week we completed some physical experiments. When Friday rolled around we started on chemical change, starting with the good old vinegar & soda experiment. Our last chip choc cookies looking at the change in properties from dough to cookie. YUM!

A big congrats to our first 2  ‘Star Book Reviewers’ Lachlan & Caleb. They did a fantastic job of describing the characters, plot & what they thought of their books. Watch out tomorrow when they add an audio clip about themselves & their reading habits.

This week (week 4) we have completed our brainstorm about our inquiry, as part of this we looked at what we had discovered so far and what wonderings (questions) we wanted to find out. We also realised that there was an awful lot of keywords we didn’t understand so spent some time working out what they meant before we begin our investigating next week.

Our inquiry plan tells us where we are heading. The first mini-petite (investigation) will be looking at ‘chemical v’s physical’ change. By the end of this we should be able to

1) identify reversible v’s irreversible change

2) define physical & chemical change

3) identify & group physical v’s chemical change.

POP, BOOM, FIZZ!

This week we started our new inquiry looking at physical & chemical changes. We began, as always, with immersion. There were 5 rotations but the most popular appeared to be making ‘hokey pokey’ I wonder why?! Take an inside look at the scientific process it took to create, note Daniel recording his investigation. The best part? the taste testing!

Here are our the last of our self portraits.

The focus has been on proportion, although these have been in the style of  Amedeo Modigliani who painted portraits in elongated forms.

Taku Whanau!

We have been learning about our whanau over this term & preparing a presentation on our own whanau ready for next week. Today we had whanau day! a day to celebrate & share all our learning. Thanks for coming family we had loads of fun.

Our art this term has focused on self-portraits as this links into our inquiry - Its all about us!

We have been focusing on

* Proportions

*Lines

But wait there’s more…

We are learning to…

Speak about our family & their relationships to us in Te Reo Maori.

We have spent all term learning about the names for various people in our whanau (family.) We have learnt through teaching, games & interactions. We are now at the stage where we are preparing the evidence of our knowledge. Some of us have chosen to present it as a poster & some as a key note.

The skills we are working on are…

* Visual presentations

* Te Reo Maori knowledge & pronouciation

Today we got together in pairs & shared our visual efforts, we gave feedback according to the criteria & feed forward, this gives us all the chance to improve our work before assessment and get the best grade possible. Mrs Shaw was very impressed with the language being used during our buddy session & the explanations given as to why we gave each other those marks.
